Ian Hayward
Born and raised in the heart of the Eastern Cape, Ian Hayward has spent his life immersed in farming, hunting, and conservation. A passionate outdoorsman, he became a Professional Hunter (PH) in 2004, graduating top of his class in the very first PH course offered by the late Jacques Greeff and ECGMA.Beyond his expertise in hunting, Ian is also a qualified Forest Engineer with extensive experience in the forestry and export industries, running multiple successful businesses. His deep respect for the land and its wildlife led him to establish Vogelrivier Game Farm, a premier hunting destination in the Somerset East region of the Eastern Cape.Ian’s vision for Vogelrivier is built on a foundation of sustainability, ethical hunting, and conservation, ensuring that future generations can continue to experience the beauty and adventure of the African wilderness.
Micheal Hayward
Born in Port Elizabeth and lives on Vogelrivier Game Farm, Michael Hayward has been deeply connected to the land and its wildlife from an early age. After matriculating from Grey High School, he further pursued his passion for conservation and ethical hunting by completing the Gameway's Program in Limpopo, which included intensive training in anti-poaching and wildlife conservation.Michael has experience in the game capture and transport industry, gaining hands-on experience in wildlife management, and also operates as a freelance Professional Hunter in the Eastern Cape. His dedication to ethical hunting and conservation ensures that every experience he guides is both sustainable and deeply rewarding.
Marlene Hayward
Born in Somerset West, Western Cape, Marlene Hayward has always had a passion for creativity and the outdoors. After studying Graphic Design, she pursued a career that blends both business and nature, currently working with Proforestry Trust while managing the Vogelrivier Lodge and accommodations.
With a keen eye for detail and a love for photography, Marlene captures the beauty of the Eastern Cape wilderness, ensuring that every guest experience at Vogelrivier is welcoming and unforgettable. Alongside her husband, Ian Hayward, she also oversees their various business ventures, balancing hospitality, conservation, and entrepreneurship.
Maxine Hayward
Born in Port Elizabeth, Eastern Cape, Maxine Hayward has a deep-rooted passion for education, conservation, and creativity. After matriculating from Harvest Christian School, she earned a BEd degree in Intermediate Phase Teaching, equipping her with strong communication and organizational skills.
Currently working remotely, Maxine oversees social media, marketing, and website management for Vogelrivier, ensuring the lodge’s unique experiences and conservation efforts reach a wide audience. With a love for cooking, animals, and wildlife conservation, she is dedicated to sharing the beauty of Vogelrivier while promoting ethical and sustainable practices.
